Verona Airport, which is also known as Valerio Catullo Villafranca International Airport, is an airport that serves the city Verona in Italy. The Verona Airport is strategically located in Northern Italy and serves an area with a social and economic development among Europe’s highest: Italy’s North-east is, in fact, a model of development recognized throughout the world. It is situated in the middle of the provinces of Brescia, Mantua, Rovigo, Vicenza, Trento, Bolzano and Verona, serving a population of more than four million inhabitants. In 1990, in order to cope with constantly growing air traffic, the terminal was strongly developed. The aircraft apron and car parking areas were enlarged, while traffic and viability were improved thanks to the connection to the new ring roads built for the World Cup. In 1995 the airport reached the record of one million passengers per annum and only five years later, in 2001, the number of people carried grew to two millions. In 2006 three million passengers used the airport for the first time. Growth continues, with 3,510,259 passengers in 2007. The airport also has Car Rental Company, where passengers can rent a car for the trip around Italy. The new aircraft maintenance hangar has now been finished and it’s available for rent; it has an area of 7,500 sq. meters equipped with three bridge cranes and it can house two medium sized aircraft. Verona Villafranca was a military airport during the Second World War and opened to civil traffic in the first Sixties with some charter flights to the North of Europe and daily connections to Rome. At the end of the Seventies, thanks to the first community project developed by the Province, the Municipality and the Chamber of Commerce of Verona, Verona Villfrance became a real air terminal with offices and facilities.
